Writing.

Sometimes writing makes me want to pull my hair out. Or I don’t know throw something.

Sitting down at your desk to spit out words, not just any words, but good stuff people will want to read and share, is tough.

Brute force doesn’t really help either. Simply typing faster and staring harder at the screen to force the words to come for some reason just doesn’t work.

Your mindset is everything

Photo by Jakob Owens on Unsplash

The average lifespan in the United States today is 27,375 days. That is deposited in your time bank when you are born. Every day you make a withdrawal of 1 day. When the days run out, you die. Your life is over.

It’s a tough fact to take in. We all will die one day. No matter how many surgeries or treatments we use to make ourselves look more youthful, the harsh reality is we’re all growing older.

One question I like to ask myself is how am I using each day that I have on this earth to make…

What you get wrong about time every single day

Photo by Juskteez Vu on Unsplash

What do we know about time? Time flows. It moves ever forwards. Or does it? Poets also tell us that time stumbles or creeps or slows or even, seems to stop. They tell us that the past might be inescapable, immanent in objects or people or landscapes. When Juliet is waiting for Romeo, time passes sluggishly: she longs for Phaethon to take the reins of the Sun’s chariot since he would whip up the horses and “bring in cloudy night immediately”. …

Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” -Epicurus

I have a problem with not actually being happy with what I currently have. I believe in always pushing forward to new heights and searching for better horizons. This is certainly not a bad thing, but it has definitely led to some negative effects in my life, like unnecessary stress.

Epicurus was a Hedonist; someone who relentlessly pursued pleasure. The constant conquest of pleasure definitely held a sort of intimidating air for me…

Your gut knows best

“Everything I do is just really my intuition, and every time I go against my intuition, it’s a mistake. Even though I may sit down and analyze and intellectualize something on paper, if I go against my gut feeling, it’s wrong.” — Tamara Mellon.

There are countless stories of people who have trusted their gut and went with that sinking feeling in their stomachs, only to find out later that their perception saved them from grave danger. We all have this ‘superpower’.

As Blaise Pascal wisely said, “The heart has reasons that reason does not understand.”

It might just be making you miserable

Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.” ~Andy Rooney

There’s a desire in many of us to always want more.

Make more money.

Be with a more attractive significant other.

Command more respect from others.

Be more happy.

Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence — which identifies the pursuit of happiness as an inalienable right, along with life and liberty — and the French Revolution both reflect this popular idea: that happiness is necessary for the health of the individual and society.

But, happiness or satisfaction has become…
